We are back at our favourite holiday house and oh wow (!) what a week we have had. This is out 6th visit in 7 years (1 year sadly missed due to Covid) and it has not failed to deliver and provide us with a magical week in wonderful N Wales. This year we have max-ed out on Zip world experiences - highly recommend Ffear Fforest for Halloween, Canyons, Phoenix/The Tower (on our way up!) not to mention Underground Golf!! All have been so worth the money and a fabulous experience for all. We discovered a fabulous company - Seren Ventures - and spent 2 days "Adventuring" and we will def be back for more of that! Highly recommended :) Black Sands Beach and seeing double rainbows were equally fantastic. It has been the wettest and winiest of our trips but still one that we will treasure. Onto the house... as said in the beginning this fabulous home holds a special place in our hearts. Thank you for a wonderful week and for a wonderful welcome to this fabulous house. The flowers, the welcome hamper, the shopping unpacked - all are greatly appreciated and we have loved our downtime in front of the fire playing games :-) Thank you for all that you do :) Thank you Claire/Paul, Gwen/Gwen and all who are involved! We returned with a specific mission in mind - to climb Snowdon as one of my big (not saying how big!) birthday challenges. I am delighted to report we came, we saw, we conquered (Miners trail, perfect conditions). Spent the rest of the trip at sea level exploring the stunning Llyn Peninsula in hot, sunny weather. We were blessed with the most glorious weather to celebrate my 60th... a bit early... with my children and my brother. The house and its 360 degree views immediately welcomed us and we dined in every night to make full use of the house. We visited Portmeirion at 4.45pm as the sun was at its warmest and there were few visitors; tail end of a wedding and "The Awfully Pleasant Scooter Association" on their Prisoner Break helped to enhance the mood. My husband, a very keen ornithologist, was entranced by an osprey carrying a fish, who flew over the house as we were enjoyeding a pre-prandial dink; my daughter and fiance siezed the moment and swam in the sea at 7.30am!! My favourite walk was from Llanystumdwy to Criccieth through the most spectacular wildflowers, stream and back along the beach. Hafod Cae Maen is very special x

What a wonderful, relaxing break we have all had in this stunning home. We didnt do half the things we had planned as we were so happy soaking up the sunshine in the lovely garden! Highly recommend a drive down to Black Rock Sands - beautiful, clean beach - great for crab huntinf! Thoroughly enjoyed our trip on the Welsh Heritage Railway - a must do! A 5 minute stroll took us down to Castell Deudraeth - 5 star food and service not to be missed! The Lemon Tree Indian takeaway was also excellent! Thank you for an amazing escape from reality!

We have had such a lovely week here! Wonderful outings to Portmeirion, Harlech, Criccieth, Llandanwg, Black Rock Sands. Wonderful house in stunning location. Could not have found anywhere better for our family weekend away. Fabulous week in a lovely house. Superb view, magnificent scenery and a truly memorable location. Mixed weather but what you would expect for North Wales in May. Kids have thoroughly enjoyed themselves, Jazz the dog has had a fabulous holiday and Snowdon tested those of us who chose to accept the challenge (Rydh ddu is pretty tough!). Waking up on Saturday morning and not being able to enjoy the view is going to be tough. We hope the farmer is grateful for the life of the sheep we saved on Thursday morning!!! Hopefully we can all come back again soon.

We have spent three glorious days here with the best weather that North Wales has to offer. Celebrating a 60th birthday at Hafod Cae Maen - dinner at Castell Deudraeth (home to father-in-law Bill when his prep school was evacuated there) - supper in Y Ring in Llanfrothen, visits to Plas Brondanw garden and newly opened Oriel Brondanw. It was strange for us to look out of our bedroom window across the traeth to our house. Building work prevents us staying there but hope to be waving across to de Thierrys at some point soon!

An unexpected opportunity to spend a night at the old homestead (where the Gough family lived between 1957 and the late 1970s). Other (younger) members of the family ran a relay over several days, experiencing the character of the old place. There is curiously little change in the general atmosphere, and no signs of the catamaran that was built in what is now the library. (The secret panel is still there where we kids hid our contraband.) No discernable changes in the garden except that the rhododendron is slightly more under control. The kitchen area is rearranged, and well appointed, and the house is warmer and more comfortable than in my day (Sorry dad and mum.)... more secrets revealed on our next visit! We have all had an amazing weekend that none of us will ever forget! Hafod Cae Maen is absolutely perfect. Everything is here that you could possibly need, and for the little ones too. The renovations have been done with such sympathy, and it has all the character it has always had. We all plan to return just as soon as possible. We want to thank all of you - it has been amazing!! We have all felt that we came back home. We leave with heavy hearts. Just a massive thank you.

Such a beautiful spot to spend an adventurous week walking, cycling and exploring the North Wales countryside. Would especially recommend Black Rocks Beach for exercising a dog/children. The Coed y Brenin Forest for mountain biking, but for a more sedate cycle with smaller children the Mawddach Trail takes you along the beautiful estuary from Dollgellau to Barmouth. Also great tapas at Tilmans on Church Street in Barmouth. For a dog-friendly Sunday roast would recommend the Cross Foxes in Dollgellau. Lovely walk down to Portmeirion Village and one of the little shops even sells sheet music for piano. So we also enjoyed the hits of Elton John! The gelato cafe in Portmeirion has the best ice-cream. So many walks to recommend... lovely walks from Beddgelert Village and Betws-y-Coed. The dunes on Harlech Beach are stunning and the children loved the castle too. (Interesting looking cafe next to the castle but sadly closed.) The house was the perfect base, beds comfy and of course the views!! Very nice touch the coffee machine. Cannot wait to return as still so much to discover. PS The butchers in Penryhndeudraeth has sublime meat. Thanks Gwen for the recommendation.

What a wonderful house and the views are stunning. 3 generations of our family stayed here and all had a great time. The welcome hamper was much appreciated (the bara brith was delicious!). We loved exploring Portmeirion, with the woodland walks and secluded beach, took the train to Blaenau Ffestiniog where we ate very tasty Kurdish pasties and climbed up to abandoned slate mills, and hiked up Snowdon via Y Llechwedd and down via the Pyg track - a wonderful walk. We have had a wonderful time here (our first!). We loved the house, area, views and garden. Despite mixed weather we have kept busy walking Snowdon (up Pyg, down Miners), visiting Portmeirion, walking on Harlech Beach and ice-cream shop, river canyoning (great fun!), eating at "Y Castell" twice, walking around the coastal path near Llanbedrog and eating outside when possible. We loved the welcome pack, fresh flowers and Gwen, who was incredibly helpful and friendly! We would also recommend the fish and chip steam train (6.05pm, return 8.50pm) on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A beautiful bank holiday weekend has been had by all. Good food, good wine, good company and even good weather! We have had some lovely walks down to Portmeirion (off road buggy driving needed); walk from here to Porthmadog and then on to Criccieth along the coastal path and beach - number 3 but back! (Every half hour). The house is perfect and Gwen has been so helpful and welcoming. Enjoyed some cosy fires (even if we did end up opening the door as it got too hot!). Baby stuff, perfect but still maintains the grown up comfort. Time to go home but we will hopefully be back for the charades re-match...

We really do not want to leave - a very happy Easter week with the sun shining every day. Lots of beach life - lovely one beyond the lighthouse in Portmeirion and a day on Harlech Beach. Highly recommend a visit to Bodnant Garden - we hit it spot on and had a beautiful walk. Children also enjoyed an afternoon at the Ski Centre in Llandudno - wish we had had more time to go on the Steam train and explore the walks more. We have had another lovely week here at the beautiful Hafod Cae Maen. The weather has been lovely and we have been on lots of great walks, including walking the Pyg track up to a snow-covered Snowdon summit. Hope to be back next year! All the best.

My wife found the lovely house and as we are both away in the USA over Christmas and New Year, we decided to bring our family on a pre-Christmas holiday. We have had a real good family Christmas including walks along the beach with our little dog Bella. We have had a relaxing time to which the house and grounds have all added their bit. My two sons playing in the garden with our dog was a treat to see (never too old to enjoy themselves). We would like to revisit in the summer when we will be able to enjoy the long days and have better use of the garden areas. We have had a great time this Christmas at this lovely house.

What a beautiful place to spend half-term week. Stunning walks, incredible views - an ideal location. Despite it being February, only one day of rain - ideal for the train. With four boys under the age of 7, the garden was a godsend - as was the Wendy House and the fully equipped playroom! Another lovely week in this fabulous house! We really enjoyed our stay here, including the recommended walks. We were lucky to have experienced most weather over the week, including hot sunshine at the beach at Morfa Bychan. Thanks for a warm welcome, fresh flowers and hamper of local goodies - all of which were used. We are grateful to Gwenfor sorting out the Waitrose delivery before our arrival and for making the child-friendly house child-safe too, with the stairgates etc. Something here for everyone - our 2 and 4 year olds loved exploring the garden, we had time to relax in the study by the fire and grandparents enjoyed our family picnic in the garden with games afterwards. Having not visited Hafod Cae Maen for over 5 years it stirred great emotions and evoked many great childhood memories from staying here with my grandparents particularly during the 1970s. My grandparents lived in this beautiful home for twenty years between 1958 and 1978 and spent many happy years here with their family. A truly magical home in a fantastic setting - this part of the wold really is God's country We hope to return again soon with other members of our family. Do you know, I had never fallen in love with a home until this week!! Hafod Cae Maen has such heart, warmth and soul and I think part of her beauty is a reflection of the love she so clearly receives!! I spotted the house on One off Places' facebook page and the setting above Portmeirion looked magical - little did I know just HOW MUCH we would all enjoy our stay here. My daughter Yasmin (8) is heavily into Enid Blyton's Famous Five books at the moment and this whole area with its castles, Caves, secret passages etc feels like we're in one!! We even drank ginger beer!! I love that all the bathrooms have White Company products, I love the open fires, I'm now hooked on Welsh Cakes, I want to buy a kitchen clock just like yours and I made a special trip to the brewery shop to buy the pretty pint glasses!! Everything is comfortable, everything has been thought about - it's been pure bliss!! We joined Portmeirion for the year so we could come and go as we pleased all week! Such a quirky place!! We loved it!! The weather for us was outstanding - who said it rains in Wales?!! Lots of other jaunts out including Mount Snowdon which the kids (5 and 8) walked down!! Mum and Dad had very achy glutes and calves, the kids were full of beans and fine!!! Loved the Ffestiniog railway!! One of the trains made a 7 mile jog of mine so much better by treating me to a big Woooh-wooOH when I waved!! We will be back - the kids already want to know when!! Huge Thanks!! xxxx

We have had a very good time: 1) Walked to Boston Lodge station for return trip to Blaenau Ffestiniog - lunch in a cultural centre in an old police state. On the return we got out at Dduallt and walked to Tan Y Bwlch (1.5hr) for a later train home. 2) Walked down to Portmeirion and then through the village for a couple of hours (low tide) on the west-facing beach past the lighthouse. We returned via path beside the Japanese pond. 3) Left the car at a station and caught the 10.05 Welsh Highland train to Beddgelert. Walked back along the river and through the Aberglaslyn Pass - spectacular views and sights of several other trains as a bonus! Some of us went to Bronaw gardens afterwards. 4) Wet day visit to Llechwedd slate caverns. Took both the tramway ride and the deep mine visit. Interesting but why don't they have a timed system to avoid lengthy queues? 5) 45 min drive to Morfa Nefyn and NT car park. Superb beach walks to and from the hamlet. Very good rock pools just beyond.

We have had a wonderful, relaxing time in this beautiful, very tastefully and artistically and personally decorated home. This is an amalgamation of all 4 of our views: - V comfortable with lovely views - V peaceful with lovely gardens - The kitchen is full of equipment, which made it easy to make a birthday cake with no fuss, and all the necessary items - The library is beautiful, with a nostalgic aura, but up-to-date Wifi ... Who would believe that we were only here for 6 days? Lots of visits out, lots of playing in the garden, games of Monopoly and playing the piano. We will certainly be returning. 10/10.

Paul will remember that I met him on a choir trip to Italy about 10 years ago and remember him talking about his love of this area. How wonderful to see a dream so spectacularly realised! Our 2 "toddlers" are now 14 and 12 and have been joined by 2 more; this has been the most fabulous house to effortlessly absorb us all for a memorable New Year break. The house was absolutely wonderful - we especially loved the games room and had great fun doing the jigsaws! The garden was perfect for games of Hide & Seek. We did not have the best weather but that didn't matter as nobody wanted to leave the house! It's been the most fantastic New Year holiday. I very much liked this house. I loved the view & I loved playing hide & seek. We loved the games room & the jigsaw was very fun. Also I found some sweets on the X-mas tree & I ate them!

I have had the most wonderful surprise weekend to celebrate my 60th birthday courtesy of my children. I cannot imagine anywhere more perfect. The house is fantastic and so well equipped - full of comfortable details. It splits so well between the "hub" i.e. the kitchen, dining area, library where the seniors could go and browse and the sitting room where the "kiddies" could go and play. I really enjoyed this holiday because you can do so many things!!!!!! Also I don't know where to start talking about this AMAZING house!!!!!! The views are great and the gardens are wicked and we found out that we had 5 cool gardens. PS The weather was just right.

Adrian now seems v keen to work his way up the ranks on the railway! Thank you. Really enjoyed our time and on the final evening had a v memorable meal at the Moorings. Much recommended. Look forward to return trips.

Our second stay at Hafod Cae Maen, it gets better every time. Loved the house, the views, the beaches, the railway - especially the fireman-in-charge. We will be back... Cracking time in this glorious house. Loved it. We'll be back!
